Supernova Comic Con & Gaming Expo

Our trip to the Supanova Comic-Con and Gaming Expo Sydney 2018 was an experience unlike any other. It is a pop-culture expo that lets fans of comics, sci-fi, fantasy, anime and gaming get together for three days of socialising and awesome shopping.

It is a place where you can dress up in cosplay (‘cos’tume role-‘play’), with like-minded people and celebrate all your favourite pop culture things. The organisers of Supernova themselves say it’s a place toexpress your inner geek, your inner child.’

For our family it was a welcoming and friendly environment where our tween/teen could dress up and chat to fellow fans, while spending some of their birthday money on all things they consider special. It was our first time and we will be back… The whole family enjoyed the buzzing atmosphere, there is nothing quite like it!

Both of the girls have a fascination with Japanese film and comics, so both dressed as their favourite Japanese character. It was amazing when others dressed in the same costume would greet them as they walked past or asked to have a photo taken together. There was a feeling of comradery I had little experience with before.

Supernova is held in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. You can find more info here.

Supernova Comic Con & Atura Hotel

Supernova was a birthday treat for both girls, so we stayed in Sydney for the night to complete the celebration. The Atura Blacktown is one of our favourite places to stay when in the area. It is an industrial style hotel with lots of flair and a dash of fun. The whole building has a cool but relaxed feeling to it… and the food from the in-house restaurant is delicious!

After our day at Supernova we were starving and after checking in to the hotel, we head to the gorgeous little pub right next door. The Royal Cricketer’s Arms is not only charming but serves up delicious food all Saturday afternoon.

With full bellies and content kiddies we head back to the hotel for an evening of playing pool in the lobby and free movies in the room….and room service pizza!! It was our teenager’s perfect day.
