The Ultimate Gift Guide for Tweens ’19/20

assorted gift ideas for tweens

Gift Ideas for Tweens

We know it's December already (just) but we don't rush our gift guides, we make sure they are all teen and tween approved!

If you need even more gift ideas for tweens be sure to check out our gift guide from last year. And if you've got an older child be sure to check the awesome list of suggestions in our Christmas gift guide for teens this year.

Disclaimer: We have included a link for you to purchase (usually Amazon) but feel free to Google to find the best price or availability in your region. We will sometimes include products that have been gifted to us throughout the year. We will only do this if our kids have loved the item and we genuinely recommend them.

1. Not Parent Approved: A Card Game for Kids, Families and Mischief Makers

Why we love it:

A hilarious award-winning party game that's suitable for tweens, teens and families. Inspired by Cards Against Humanity, but 100% family-friendly. Designed to reintroduce a love of tabletop games for a screen-obsessed generation. Attention-grabbing. Easy-to-learn. Quick, simple play. WARNING: Cards contain gratuitous bathroom humor that kids find hilarious while distracted from their screens.

Comes with 455 durable, premium-printed cards (2"x3") and rules insert in a custom shrink-wrapped box. Great for parties, sleepovers, road trips, flights, picnics, and summer camps. (Expansion packs sold separately).

"Consider it your secret weapon against reluctant readers, as one tester said it improved her daughter’s reading skills." - Scholastic Review.

2. Scent Republik MiXuP Scent Stiks

Why we love it:

We were super fortunate to have been gifted a set of MiXuP Scent Stiks earlier in the year so I can 100% vouch for these (I've since purchased a number of them and gifted them to other girls). Both my then 13 year old and 6 year daughters as well as my 11 and 9 year old nieces LOVED them. Basically it's fragance in a pen. The nib is similar to a highlighter. You can literally draw the fragrance onto your skin. They were designed to be able to apply one layer on top of another (hence the 'mix-up'). Our favourites were FAB, BFF and YAY! The scent sticks are 100% paraben and phthalate free and are 100% cruelty free. Super affordable and make a perfect stocking filler.

If you are shopping for a teen check out their Cities range!

3. Spontuneous - The Song Game

Why we love it:

This bestseller is a simple party game to play for all ages and musical tastes. A word is given and it's a race to blurt out any song containing that word. No singing skill is necessary and you can play across all generations.

Basically, you hear a word, a song pops into your head, and you spontaneously burst into a tune! For example: Can you think of a song with the word "COWBOY" in it? How 'bout "HEART"? Then you quickly start singing the song. The object is to stump the other players, but if you do, you'd better be able to back it up with a song of your own!

Ages: 8 + | Players: 4 - 10 / teams recommended

4. The World of David Walliams: The Biggest Box Set

Why we love it:

A little while ago the lovely Jen from Love Wednesday did a post on IG during book week commenting that she would be forever grateful to David Walliams for instilling a love of books into her son. As my own son is not an avid reader I then went out and purchased two of his books (Billionaire Boy and Gangsta Granny) to see if I could entice him into reading. Low and behold, he LOVED both the books! In fact, he couldn't put them down! If you have a reluctant reader in the house, or a tween who already loves to read, they're going to love this box set of EIGHT hilarious and moving novels from bestselling, critically acclaimed author, David Walliams, in one SUPER-TASTIC box-set!

5. Secret Decoder Ring

Why we love it:

This is honestly the coolest thing ever. While creating a treasure hunt for his two young daughters, Seth Sterling wanted to include a clue that required a secret-decoder ring like those he remembered from his youth. But after a search for one left him empty handed, he decided to design one himself. Modeled in the spirit of those used to crack codes during radio shows of the golden era, such as Little Orphan Annie and Captain Midnight, his modern secret decoder ring lets amateur ciphers test their knack for code-breaking. His stylish and smart stainless steel ring reveals a secret code with every turn. Spin the ring to find the hidden letter that each number represents. A game-meets-accessory best enjoyed with friends and siblings, they'll have a blast taking turns leaving coded notes for each other to find and figure out (why not buy a pair so they can give one away!)

Your kids can experience the wonder of invisibility with their very own Invisibility Cloak from the Harry Potter series. Using the special effect App included, Muggles can now film themselves vanishing from view, re-enact scenes from the films or simply create magical images. *** Please note that after reading the customer reviews in detail, we've realised that it's unfortunately probably not going to make it in time for Christmas. If you love this idea but don't want to take the risk then do a quick Google cause you should be able to find someone in your territory who can make one for you sooner. (Just remember to read the reviews first to make sure you are going with someone credible).

9. Tommy Hilfiger TJ Cool City Bumbag

Why we love it:

Your tween can keep his/her hands free and carry their essentials in this stylish bumbag, finished with easy-to-open zipped compartments (my son uses his to carry his epi-pen and antihistimine). While at that same time reducing the environmental and social impact of production by using a bag made from recycled materials!

10. Popsocket (pictured in Sparkle Rose)

Why we love it:

The original phone grip, Popsockets are available in a broad range of styles and materials. While they are not "in" like they were before, they are still super handy. (Take note, it was a definite 'no' from my teen but an excited 'yes' from my tween!) They function as a convenient stand so you can watch videos on the fly and allow for hands-free use with the PopSockets mount. The reusable adhesive is also repositionable and sticks to most devices and cases (will not stick to some silicone, waterproof, or highly textured cases).

We adore the Sparkle Rose (uses real glitter paper) but check our their website to see their entire range. My 11 year old son liked the moon and galaxy ones.

13. Wreck This Journal

Why we love it:

For anyone who's ever wished to, but had trouble starting, keeping, or finishing a journal or sketchbook comes Wreck This Journal, an illustrated book featuring a subversive collection of suggestions, asking readers to muster up their best mistake - and mess-making abilities to fill the pages of the book (and destroy them). This is the book for those who've always wanted to draw outside the lines but were afraid to do it

Through a series of creatively and quirkily illustrated prompts, acclaimed artist Keri Smith encourages journalers to engage in "destructive" acts - poking holes through pages, adding photos and defacing them, painting with coffee, colouring outside the lines, and more - in order to experience the true creative process. With Keri Smith's unique sensibility, readers are introduced to a new way of art and journal making, discovering novel ways to escape the fear of the blank page and fully engage in the creative process.

“A conceptual artist and author luring kids into questioning the world and appreciating every smell, texture and mystery in it.” —TIME Magazine

Nike Jordan Max Aura

Why we love it:

If you've got a kid who loves his/her sneakers, you can't go wrong with Jordans.

The Boys’ Grade School Jordan Max Aura is the children’s sizing for the Jordan Brand basketball shoe that combines the looks of two of the most iconic Air Jordan models ever with modern on-court performance. The design fuses recognizable details of the Air Jordan 10 and Air Jordan 11 into one sleek silhouette with modern performance amenities like lightweight, breathable mesh on the upper and Air Max cushioning in the heel for impact protection. Any Air Jordan fan should easily be able to spot the references to the two classic models, with the webbed lacing system of the Air Jordan 10 and the shining patent leather paneling (on select colorways) of the Air Jordan 11. In fact, if you really know Air Jordan history, you may see design elements that are reminiscent of the Air Jordan 2 across the upper and outsole. It all combines for a new basketball model that respects the history of Jordan Brand while also looking towards the future.

The Max Aura features the best of both worlds from Jordan Brand, combining iconic design with today’s comfortable technology. The colorway options also reflect this same idea, as both classic-inspired looks and all-new color combinations are offered. Jordan fans will quickly recognize familiar “Concord” and “Bred” colorways borrowed from the Air Jordan 11, and you’ll also get a full selection of unique new looks for the silhouette, as well.

14. Awesome Lego Creations With Bricks You Already Have book

Why we love it:

Well the title is pretty self explanatory. LEGO is great fun but expensive! This book creates hours of fun, new worlds and new toys from the collection of LEGO kids already have. Each project includes a parts list so you can verify that you have all the pieces and even buy supplemental pieces if you want, but most projects avoid specialty pieces and feature ones likely to be in most people's collections. The book engages kids with fun, kid-friendly language and cool facts about the things they are making. This family-friendly book is sure to spark the imagination of your kids and keep them entertained for hours.

15. Kiwi Co Tinker Crate

Why we love it:

KiwiCo was built out of a belief in the importance of developing creative confidence. They believe that this confidence helps kids think big and act like creators and producers instead of just consumers. Kids with creative confidence don’t assume one "right way" to build with blocks, paint a picture, or solve a problem.

It's a subcription service where you can choose a monthly, 3, 6 or 12 month subscription. Seriously fun & enriching science & art projects, delivered.

The Tinker Crate is a laboratory for hands-on STEM projects suitable for kids aged 9 - 16+ years. Check out this video for an example of one of the crates in the Tinker range.

I recently ordered the Doodle Crate for my 14 year old. We are yet to receive it but I will let you know what she and I both think of it in our Facebook group. I also think she would have loved the Maker Crate. She's big on arts and crafts! There's a good variety to choose from depending on your child's interests and age.

Disclaimer: The link above is my referral code that will give you 60% off your first crate. I can also offer you $10 off (you choose which is better for you!) If you do not wish to use my referral code just visit their home page and order from there 🙂
